Warsaw

The story of Warsaw can be divided in two: before August 1, 1944, and after. 2004 marked the 60th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, a battle which has come to define the spirit of the city and its people. Brutalized and butchered it was effectively wiped from the map – blown to smithereens by the Nazis. The city has gone to pains to rebuild itself.

  • Sakana
My boyfriend and I visited the newly opened Sakana on Burakowska street last night and had a wonderful experience there. We have lived in Warsaw for almost a year now, and we had resolved ourselves to the unfriendly experience of eating out here and[...]
  • New Orleans
I was there in March, was 100 PLN for a dance in private upstairs, advice: pay for 2 or more "songs", saves time for the girl to dress/undress and more time to "touch", depends on the girl, but with some you can get "wet fingers". Will be back there[...]
  • The Little Insurgent Monument
it just sad to think young kids fought for their lives. Usually kids right now would hide inside their homes and watch TV and just wait till someone finished the war. In my Ansectors have told my grandparents that told my mom that told me that the k[...]

  • 17.06 Wednesday - Enrique Bunbury
I think Enrique Bunbury is a great artist, with a hard-to-describe-in-words style. He a rock singer, as well as he is a burlesque artist. He succeeds in his solo career at least the same he did with his former band, Heroes del Sil[...]
  • One of the world’s top 10 cities?
In one section of the IYP one finds somebody declaring it's "madness" to describe Glasgow as a "must visit"; in another section, the forthcoming IYP guide to the same city is being trumpeted as a shining new addition to your series. Shome misht[...]

  • Warsaw Voted Europe's Ugliest City
Warsaw will get a lot uglier if Daniel Libeskind's stupid tower, "Zlota 44", gets built. The last thing Warsaw needs is more pretentious, btutalist architecture glorifying one pompous architect's need for attention and self gratification. [...]
  • Tourist Information
Please mention that the awful cage called Etudia Terminal closed in March and departing visitors are now offered some civility when departing from the airport. My experiences of Etudia are truly unbelievable - worse than being walled up in the [...]
  • Firemen's Museum
Absilutely fabulous Museum, - it also tells the story of fire fighting during ther wars. Priceless photos and artefacts abound, even though the majority of memorabilia held during the war was destroyed. A real honour for the men who worked trie[...]
  • Café Bristol
If you don't mind the smell of stale cigarette smoke from the night before, this cafe can be a very pleasant experience. I have been going there since the Bristol reopened in the early 1990's (or whenever it reopened). I have found it a go[...]
  • Warsaw Voted Europe's Ugliest City

  • Grand Kredens
Not as good as it used to be....We went here a couple of years ago and it was great. I had exactly the same this time and it wasn't a patch on what I remember. We didn't get smalec with our bread or a complimentary shot with the bill, but a[...]
  • Chłodna 25
Where else do young pianists get up early on a Sunday, put on a velvet jacket and play wonderfully to please the regular Sunday crew? Why Chlodna 25 of course! It's cafés like Chlodna 25 that make Warsaw so appealing. In a drab building, in[...]
